Appellation: Napa Valley
Varietal Blend: 100% Merlot Clones 1 & 181
Soil: Volcanic soils with strong gravel outcroppings, 20% Serpentine soils and shale deposits. Elevation: 1400 feet.
Harvest: Manually harvested. Picked at optimum ripeness and hand sorted inthe vineyard.
Technique: Destemmed and gently crushed into stainless fermentation tanks. Inoculated with bordeaux Red yeast, pumped over twice daily. Near end of fermentation, the wine was inoculated with malo-lactic bacteria. The maceration was extended to 3 weeks, after which it was pressed, racked off the gross lees and moved to barrels.
Aging: 18 months in 50% new Bordeaux style French & Hungarian oak barrels. Racked quarterly to aid natural clarification. Bottled May 16, 2007.
Tasting Notes: Bright fruit notes of black cherry along with vanilla, coffee & chocolate reveal extra demensions of depth and complexity. Rich & supple, with firm but integrated tannins.
